New Horizons on Tour – a Day of Immersion
In 2011, 1400 children attended Moscow Ballet’s “New Horizons on Tour” a day of enrichment and cultural immersion. Rooted in the performing arts, the three-pronged approach to developing happy and healthy children addresses children’s dietary, movement and creative expression behaviors through unique, hands-on experiences with Moscow Ballet dancers.
READING Moscow Ballet’s Great Russian Nutcracker story book before the performance is a critical first-step in the immersion activities. Hearing the story read aloud activates children’s learning and cognitive processes according to published experts in the field.
MOVEMENT exercises with the Russian professionals... children are led in exercises based on ballet principals extracted from Ballet is the Best Exercise, by prima ballerina Cynthia Gregory. Nutrition guidelines, created by nutritionist Deb Phillips, are also presented to the children.
INTERACTIVE PUPPET PLAY AND STORYTELLING with these professional role models is often a once-in-a-lifetime experience providing memories and inspiring children for the rest of their lives.
CULMINATES in seeing the Great Russian Nutcracker opening children’s awareness of the creative process. Experiencing top Russian dancers, Tchaikovsky’s score, 200 hand-sewn costumes, and 9 hand-painted backdrops takes children to a place where imagination becomes real, empowering their own creative self.
