Olena Pedan joins Moscow Ballet as Soloist and Audition Director for the 2017 25th Anniversary Tour of Swan Lake and the Great Russian Nutcracker across North America! Olena also tours internationally throughout Europe and China as Guest Artist. In 2016 Olena was invited to audition for resident choreographer Erik Othelius Sörensen at Paris' famous dance theatre the Moulin Rouge. She was born in Dnipropetrovsk, Ukraine's fourth largest city lying southeast of the capital Kiev, on the historic Dnieper River. At 9 years old she was accepted at ballet school, studying there until her teens, when she was invited to join the Dnipropetrovsk College of Theater. In 2006 she became a professional ballerina at the Dnipropetrovsk Academic Theater of Opera and Ballet performing classical, jazz, sometimes Latin-American dances, and modern dance performances for ten years. Simultaneously, Olena continued her studies attending the International Slavonic University and the Dnipropetrovsk National University where she received a Master’s Degree in Journalism and Mass Media Communications.
“When I was 8 years old, I became the winner of a school beauty contest. I was on stage, all the audience was clapping for me, and that day I had realized that I want to be an actress. At 10 years I came to the theater at first time. I was fascinated by gorgeous costumes and graceful ballerinas. I was walking along the corridor with my mother to the ballet class, and dreamed that they would take me to study. I passed the exam and was taken to the choreography school at the Dnepropetrovsk Academic Opera and Ballet Theater. From that day all my life had changed. Ballet lessons, rehearsals, performances. For 8 years of study it was not easy. Every day, forceing yourself to do the same thing, repeating the same exercises over and over again. When you want it, and when you not. When you are in good mood, and when you not. But I had a goal - to become a ballerina. And I moved toward it every day.”
“After graduating from Ballet School, I entered at the Dnepropetrovsk Theater and Art College and studied there 4 years. Then I studied at the International Slavic University at the Faculty of Choreography and Directing where I began to work in the theater. I danced all the repertoire at the theater and began dancing solo parts which were Frescoes from the ballets "The Little Humpbacked Horse", The Brides from Swan Lake, the Russian variation in The Nutcracker, a pas de de variation in Don Quixote, Vilisa in Giselle and more. My dreams came true!My first tour abroad was to Switzerland. During 10 years I worked at the theater and we toured many countries: Switzerland, France, Germany, Italy, Belgium, Czech Republic, Poland, China where I received a lot of experience and new knowledge.”
“One day I decided that I wanted to try something new and that was Paris! The most famous cabaret in the whole world, "Moulin Rouge", and also cabaret "Crazy Horse." It was a great experience with wonderful and talented choreographers who helped me open myself and show me that I can dance another style choreography. But I didn't stay in Paris, because I realized that I love ballet more than anything else. And, finally last year, America. Many cities, many performances, a lot of new experiences with new people and with culture of this wonderful country. I just want to say, that ballerinas life is not as easy as it looks. From day-to-day you must work hard in ballet class and always work on yourself, never forgetting that every minute you are going toward your goal: to dance better than yesterday. Perfecting yourself over and over again in order to give the audience happiness and unforgettable emotions from your performance.”
Olena also has experience teaching student dancers at the ballet school at Dnipropetrovsk Academic Theater of Opera and Ballet. Olena always strives forpersonal self-development, career growth, and to learn new methods in her field of expertise. She is very happy to join Moscow Ballet as Soloist and Audition Director in this 25th Anniversary year.
