The experience of working and performing with professional ballerinas is often a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for aspiring dancers. Former Somerville NJ Gotta Dance student Hillary-Marie Michael, now director of Jersey Tap Fest, says, “From start to finish … it is an excellent way for dancers to understand both the discipline and fun involved in a professional ballet production.”

Summerville Civic Ballet (SCB) began in September 2012 under the artistic direction of Douglas Smoak.  The company is housed by United We Dance located in Summerville, SC.  This grass-roots ballet company is made up of local and talented dancers ages 9 and up.  SCB is a non-profit ballet company dedicated to giving local students performance opportunities and experiences, and to promoting the appreciation, study and performance of dance as an art for to as wide and diverse an audience as possible. Douglas Smoak studied with Robert Ivey Ballet in Charleston, SC before attended North Carolina School of the Arts.  He danced professionally with the Nevada Dance Theatre, Sarasota Ballet, and Ballet Eddy Toussaint and has extensive choreography and production experience.
