Moscow Ballet announces open auditions on Tue, Sep 8, 6:30pm for local student dancers, boys and girls, ages 7 to 16 years. Selected children will perform beside the professional company in the Great Russian Nutcracker Nov 24 at Montgomery performing Arts Center.

The auditions will be at Moscow Ballet local host dance studio Tonya Speed's Dance Connection, 3370 Harrison Road. Montgomery, Al 36109. Student dancers must have at least one year of ballet training, dress in dance attire and may bring Pointe shoes. Moscow Ballet’s “Dance with Us” program, in its 23rd year, selects student dancers to perform ancillary roles of Party Children, Mice, Snowflakes, Angels, and more. Audition Director Zhanna Golubenko will be in town for several days to lead the audition and to rehearse the selected student dancers. “The true highlight of the night was seeing all the Calgary children who... should be congratulated for their very skilled and enthusiastic participation. It really brought the idea home that the Great Russian Nutcracker is a wonderful chance for children to be in a full-length production and experience first-hand an authentic classical ballet from this uniquely Russian company of remarkable performers,” Calgary Herald, 2014. Register at www.nutcracker.com/youth-auditions/sign-up-to-audition. Tickets and more info at www.nutcracker.com.

Tonya Speed's Dance Connection is truly a DREAM come true for Tonya Speed.  At an early age she began to develop a love for dance and the performing arts.  At age two, Tonya's passion for dance was evident by her showmanship on stage.  Those developmental years proved that she was a natural performer.  Tonya's dedication to increasing her dance ability allowed her the opportunity to study under many outstanding instructors, including popular local teachers, Willadean Walden, Clem Borland, Norma Borland, Jackie Rocheleau, and Lynn Curtis.  She has studied with national choreographers Frank Hatchett (Broadway Dance Center of NYC), Lynda Gache (former Rockette), Jeffrey Williams (owner of Tap Challenge), Dianne Williams (Lady Di of Tap), and Al Gilbert (The Pied Piper of Dance).  These years of dance instruction confirmed her decision to pursue ownership of her own studio.

In 1986, she took a leap of faith, and now owns a successful studio, well known in Montgomery and surrounding areas.  She has been involved with the Montgomery County Junior Miss program for 25 years, and has also judged local and state pageants.  Tonya is well known for her work in theatre and show choir choreography.  Tonya holds certification in dance from Dance Educators of America.  Her philosophy is to encourage and teach students to develop a deep love and appreciation for dance, as well as build a strong self esteem!  This mission has helped in growing her studio to what it is today!  Having just celebrated 23 years in business, and an enrollment of over 350 students, Tonya Speed's Dance Connection still has a family environment, and has been voted Montgomery’s Best Dance Studio on several occasions.
