Moscow Ballet announces open auditions on Wednesday, October 8th, at 6:00-9:00 PM for student dancers ages 7 to 16 years at Tonya Speed Dance Connection, 3370 Harrison Rd., Montgomery AL 36109.

Moscow Ballet’s “Dance with Us” Audition Director Carolina Siscanu will be present to select 60 student dancers to perform side-by-side with the professional company of 40 Russian dancers. Students are cast in ancillary roles of Party Children, Mice, Snowflakes, Angels, and more. They will perform in the Great Russian Nutcracker November 25, 7:00pm at the Montgomery Performing Arts Center. Moscow Ballet is pleased to work with Tonya Speed Dance Connection to make the open audition, rehearsals and performances possible. Applicants must be between 7 and 16 years old, have at least one year of ballet training, dress in dance attire and may bring Pointe shoes. The experience of working and performing with professional ballerinas is often a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for aspiring dancers. “The payoff at the end of the rehearsals is the opportunity to be part of Christmas magic, to dance under shimmering lights with award-winning Russian dancers against exquisite hand-painted sets. It’s great for the kids. They get to dance in a professional production,” affirms Margaret Engle of Charlottesville Ballet School. Tonya Speed's Dance Connection is truly a DREAM come true for Tonya Speed.  At an early age she began to develop a love for dance and the performing arts.  At age two, Tonya's passion for dance was evident by her showmanship on stage.  Those developmental years proved that she was a natural performer.  Tonya's dedication to increasing her dance ability allowed her the opportunity to study under many outstanding instructors, including popular local teachers, Willadean Walden, Clem Borland, Norma Borland, Jackie Rocheleau, and Lynn Curtis.  She has studied with national choreographers Frank Hatchett (Broadway Dance Center of NYC), Lynda Gache (former Rockette), Jeffrey Williams (owner of Tap Challenge), Dianne Williams (Lady Di of Tap), and Al Gilbert (The Pied Piper of Dance).  These years of dance instruction confirmed her decision to pursue ownership of her own studio.

In 1986, she took a leap of faith, and now owns a successful studio, well known in Montgomery and surrounding areas.  She has been involved with the Montgomery County Junior Miss program for 25 years, and has also judged local and state pageants.  Tonya is well known for her work in theatre and show choir choreography.  Tonya holds certification in dance from Dance Educators of America.  Her philosophy is to encourage and teach students to develop a deep love and appreciation for dance, as well as build a strong self esteem!  This mission has helped in growing her studio to what it is today!  Having just celebrated 23 years in business, and an enrollment of over 350 students, Tonya Speed's Dance Connection still has a family environment, and has been voted Montgomery’s Best Dance Studio on several occasions.
