Moscow Ballet’s company of almost 40 dancers is the only internationally touring ballet group to perform to critical acclaim in over 75 North American cities annually. The renowned, award-winning principal dancers and corps de ballet thrill audiences with their expertise, dramatic expression and stunning leaps, drops and turns. The production is known for its dedication to world peace placing Act II in the “Land of Peace and Harmony,” featuring a cannon that shoots roses and a stunning 2-dancer “Dove of Peace” with a 20’ wingspan. All ages feel the spirit of the season at Great Russian Nutcracker performances through the beauty of romantic hand-sewn costumes, 9 shimmering backdrops with authentic splashes of Russian history and fanciful effects such as; life-sized Matrushka (Nesting) Dolls; a 3-headed Rat King and a Troika Sleigh ride through the magical Snow Forest (with falling snow) escorted by Father Christmas and Snow Maiden.

Magda’s “Wish of a Lifetime” come true at Youkey Theatre


Magdalen (Magda) Goodrich, 96, of Clare Bridge Place in Lakeland, FL is a dedicated mother of 7 children with a passion for the performing arts. She has dedicated the majority of her life to raising her children and Magda has always had a love for the performing arts and a secret desire to be a ballet dancer. Magda was a drum major, played the piano and organ, a clown as well as a belly dancer. The fulfillment of her wish has brought Magda’s family together to honor her life. Wish of a Lifetime and Brookdale are excited to provide Magda with tickets to The Nutcracker at Lakeland’s Youkey Theater.

Magda Goodrich’s Wish of a Lifetime came true at Moscow Ballet’s Great Russian Nutcracker perofrmaance where she went backstage to meet the dances and saw the performance from VIP seats too. Brookdale Assisted Living Community, Youkey Theatre and Moscow Ballet combined to make Magda’s wish come true on December 30.

The Wish of a Lifetime was founded in 2008 by two-time Olympic skier, World Cup gold medalist, entrepreneur and former NFL player Jeremy Bloom in living honor of his grandmother. To date, Wish of a Lifetime has granted nearly 1000 Wishes in every state. The fulfilled Wishes are highly unique but can be categorized into 4 types of experiences: Renewing and Celebrating Passions, Reconnecting Loved Ones, Commemorating Service, Fulfilling Lifelong Dreams.


Moscow Ballet announces auditions for local student dancers to perform beside the pros in Great Russian Nutcracker!


Moscow Ballet announces open auditions on Fri, Oct 30 5:00pm for local student dancers, boys and girls, ages 7 to 16 years. Selected children will perform beside the professional company in the Great Russian Nutcracker on Dec 30 at the Lakeland Center Youkey Theatre.The auditions will be at Moscow Ballet local host dance studio Highland School of Dance, 6929 Old Hwy 37, Lakeland, FL 33811.

Student dancers must have at least one year of ballet training, dress in dance attire and may bring Pointe shoes. Moscow Ballet’s “Dance with Us” program, in its 23rd year, selects student dancers to perform ancillary roles of Party Children, Mice, Snowflakes, Angels, and more. Audition Director Zhanna Golubenko will be in town for several days to lead the audition and to rehearse the selected student dancers. “The true highlight of the night was seeing all the Calgary children who... should be congratulated for their very skilled and enthusiastic participation. It really brought the idea home that the Great Russian Nutcracker is a wonderful chance for children to be in a full-length production and experience first-hand an authentic classical ballet from this uniquely Russian company of remarkable performers,” Calgary Herald, 2014. Highland School of Dance (HSD) in Lakeland was opened in 1974 by Jane Coyle. The objectives and standards have always been to give the best dance education possible while instilling high moral standards to be used all through life and to enjoy the freedom that dance brings while learning the discipline that it demands. HSD's former students have gone on to dance in college and professionally. Students have attended, performed with, founded, and been employed by Disney World in Florida and Japan, Ballethnic, Butler University, Busch Gardens, Chicago Lyric Opera, Cincinnati Conservatory, Deeply Rooted Production, Demetrius Klein Dance Company, Lines Ballet, Martha Graham Foundation, Moving Current, Moving People Dance Theater, New World School of the Arts, Point Park University, Redwall Dance Theatre, River North, Southern Ballet Theater, Southern Methodist University, and University of South Florida, as well as appearances in Broadway productions. altThe Youkey Theatre is named for Robert Youkey, former Lakeland, FL city manager, and is known as the centerpiece of the Lakeland Center complex. The complex was established in 1974; the Youkey was renovated and other parts of the complex expanded in the mid-1990s.

Today, Lakeland Center, namely its Youkey Theatre, hosts a variety of events including stage performances (dance, plays, etc.), sports, conferences, community events, concerts, and more. Youkey Theatre is home to the complex's annual Broadway and Entertainment series as well as the Imperial Symphony Orchestra.
