Moscow Ballet's Great Russian Nutcracker returns to the Redding Civic Center this holiday season!

The ultimate holiday tradition for the youngest to the seniors in every family, seeing Moscow Ballet’s Great Russian Nutcracker creates holiday memories that last a lifetime. Moscow Ballet’s company of almost 40 dancers is the only internationally touring ballet group to perform to critical acclaim in over 75 North American cities annually. The renowned, award-winning principal dancers and corps de ballet thrill audiences with their expertise, dramatic expression and stunning leaps, drops and turns. The production is known for its dedication to world peace placing Act II in the “Land of Peace and Harmony,” featuring a cannon that shoots roses and a stunning 2-dancer “Dove of Peace” with a 20’ wingspan. All ages feel the spirit of the season at Great Russian Nutcracker performances through the beauty of romantic hand-sewn costumes, 9 shimmering backdrops with authentic splashes of Russian history and fanciful effects such as; life-sized Matrushka (Nesting) Dolls; a 3-headed Rat King and a Troika Sleigh ride through the magical Snow Forest (with falling snow) escorted by Father Christmas and Snow Maiden.

Local Audition Information  Coming Soon for Moscow  Ballet's 2015 Performances!


altMoscow Ballet’s “Dance with Us” Audition Director will be present to select 60 student dancers to perform side-by-side with the professional company of 40 Russian dancers. Students are cast in ancillary roles of Party Children, Mice, Snowflakes, Angels, and more. Applicants must be between 7 and 16 years old, have at least one year of ballet training, dress in dance attire and may bring Pointe shoes. The experience of working and performing with professional ballerinas is often a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for aspiring dancers. Former Somerville NJ Gotta Dance student Hillary-Marie Michael, now director of Jersey Tap Fest, says, “From start to finish … it is an excellent way for dancers to understand both the discipline and fun involved in a professional ballet production.”

California Dance Company is located in Anderson, California and offers a full suite of dance classes, for all ages, which cater to both competitive and recreational dancers. The studio offers ballet, Hip Hop, tap, jazz, lyrical, modern, adult, and much more. For the last five years, the dancers have represented the USA in the World Championships held in Europe in the fall. In 2011, one of the dancers won Soloist Gold, the first time the USA won Soloist Gold at this championship! Two former studio dancers are cheerleaders for Sacramento Kings and LA Lakers, and four of the dancers were involved in a Disney Musical video in 2012. In addition, the studio has been awarded many honors and awards, and many of the students went on to very successful careers in the dance and music industry.


altThe Redding Civic Auditorium (previously known as the Redding Convention Center) is located near downtown Redding in an open space, surrounded by the beautiful Sacramento River, the Turtle Bay Exploration Park, and the magnificent Sundial Bridge. It accommodates over 2,000 people in plush, cushioned seats. The downstairs area, which consists of orchestra and dress circle, contains 1200 seats. The balconies, which seat people on both the sides and the rear of the theater, have a seating capacity of 822.  The city of Redding, in the county of Shasta, is located at the northern tip of the Central Valley, 160 miles north of Sacramento, with Interstate 5 running through the heart of Redding and Shasta County.
