Announcing Moscow Ballet’s Great Russian Nutcracker coming to Roanoke at Jefferson Center on December 8 ~ Tickets On Sale Now

The one and only Moscow Ballet Great Russian Nutcracker will premiere in Roanoke on Friday, December 8, 7:00 pm only at Jefferson Center. Tickets go on sale Now. 

All ages are invited to celebrate Christmas with the Moscow Ballet company of almost 40 ballerinas and danseurs on their 25th Anniversary Tour of North America in 2017. Moscow Ballet’s Great Russian Nutcracker is known for its award-winning Principal Dancers, lavish costumes in the style of the Victorian era, many backdrops created by “La La Land’ Set Concept designer Carl Sprague, and its Russian focus including life-sized Matryoshka Dolls, Russian folk legends Ded Moroz (Father Christmas) and Snegurochka (Snow Maiden) and Troika Sleigh. Adults and children enjoy the special effects of the flapping winged owl on the Grandfather clock, the growing 50 ft tall Christmas Tree, the Dove of Peace with a 20ft wingspan, and of course, the leaps, spins, and extraordinary moves of the company all performed to Tchaikovsky’s complete and incomparable score.

New in 2017! Roanoke and area Ballet Students Called to Audition for Moscow Ballet’s Anna Radik on Tuesday, November 7 at Host Studio:Valley Dance Productions LLC

Roanoke and area ballet students ages 6 to 18 are invited to audition on Tuesday, November 7, 4:30pm for Moscow Ballet Soloist and Audition Director Anna Radik at Valley Dance Productions LLC, 17 Elm Avenue, Roanoke, VA 24016.  The Moscow Ballet audition is open to students from dance studios across the city with a minimum one year of ballet training. 

Ballerina Anna Radik leads auditions and rehearse the young dancers in their assigned roles. Successful auditionees perform side-by-side with the Moscow Ballet company in the Great Russian Nutcracker in roles that were created exclusively for their age and skill levels such as Party Children, Mice, Snowflakes, Snow Maidens and more. Anna also leads the young dancers at dress rehearsal with the Russian company the day of the performance. This is often a once-in-a-lifetime experience for aspiring young dancers. The Dance-with-Us program is in its 25th year of auditioning and rehearsing student dancers in each tour city to perform with the professional company. Auditions are free, there may be a casting fee. Consistent with the goal to be a first class performance facility, Shaftman Performance Hall at Jefferson Center was modeled after a popular 17th century “shoe box” English opera house design.
