Announcing tickets on sale now for Moscow Ballet’s celebrated Great Russian Nutcracker returning to Rapid City at Rushmore Plaza Civic Center Wednesday November 30, 7:00pm.

Direct from Russia, the classic Great Russian Nutcracker will entertain the whole family this Christmas. Experience the exceptional dancing of a company of almost 40, a 60-foot growing Christmas tree, new and spectacular hand-made costumes by Resident Designer Arthur Oliver, and stunning sets hand-painted in Russia and designed by multi-Academy Award nominee Carl Sprague. Moscow Ballet consistently garners critical acclaim for performances in 100+ cities from New York to Los Angeles, and Miami to Calgary. The production is known for its dedication to world peace: naming Act II the “Land of Peace and Harmony;” featuring a rose shooting cannon, and a stunning 2-person “Dove of Peace” with a 20’ wingspan. Calling local student dancers to audition to perform side-by-side with the professional company in Moscow Ballet’s Great Russian Nutcracker in Rapid City.

Moscow Ballet Soloist and Audition Director Olena Nalyvaiko  will be present Tuesday, August 30 3:00pm at Moscow Ballet’s local Host Dance Studio Prima School of Dancing  3401 Sturgis Road  Rapid City, SD 57702  to audition dance students from the area. Student dancers, boys and girls, ages 7 to 17 years, and who have at least one year of ballet training, may audition for ancillary roles such as Party Children, Mice, Snowflakes, Angels and more. The auditions are free, there may be a casting fee.  The selected children will perform in the Great Russian Nutcracker November 30 at Rushmore Plaza and Civic Center. About the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center

The Rushmore Plaza Civic Center is a 150,000-square-foot theatre, arena and exhibition center, in Rapid City, South Dakota and was built in 1977. The grand opening event, which was a concert by Elvis Presley on June 21, 1977, was filmed for a CBS television special that aired in September. The concert was during the singer's final tour. The Rushmore Plaza Civic Center is home to many large events including the Black Hills Stock Show and Rodeo,Lakota Nations Invitational, and the Black Hills Homebuilders Expo. It also showcases many motorcycles during the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. It was home to the Rapid City Thrillers basketball team. The Civic Center is the main event center for western South Dakota. The new arena was designed to double the capacity of the Civic Center, and was completed in 2008. It allows two simultaneous events to occur under one roof. The new arena features luxury boxes for events and the Rapid City Rush home games.
