25 Years and 2 Generations Strong: Local Ballet Students Perform Side-by-Side with Moscow Ballet Pros in Panama City on December 1

25 years and 2 generations later, over 75,000 local ballet students, ages 6 to 18 with at least 1 year of ballet training, perform side-by-side with Moscow Ballet pros. In Panama City, the “Dance with Us”  cast will perform their roles in the Great Russian Nutcracker on Friday, December 1 at the Marina Civic Center this holiday season.

“It was such an amazing opportunity for our young dancers to grow and see how a professional company works...the costumes were breathtaking, says Julia Zhmutski of Moscow Ballet Host Dance Studio Julia’s Dance Academy in Oklahoma City. The ballet students, who study at ballet schools in the area, auditioned for Moscow Ballet Audition Director Olena Pedan in the fall and rehearsed their roles at the Moscow Ballet Host Dance Studio, Studio by the Sea. The children’s roles are as Party Children, Small Mice, Snowflakes, Snow Sprites, Snow Maidens, and Act II’s Variations of the world’s five great heritages. The experience of auditioning for a professional, rehearsing with the company, being fitted in Moscow Ballet costumes, and performing for a live audience of a thousand or more is often a once-in-a-lifetime experience for these children!

Studio by the Sea opened in 2012 with the goal of bringing a new standard of excellence in dance to the Panama City area with a curriculum anchored in classical Ballet technique.  Artistic Director Wendy Lewis trained and performed with the top-ranked Ballet West for several years before receiving a degree in Ballet Performance from the University of South Florida.  She danced with various companies and taught classes at dance schools throughout Tampa Bay prior to relocating to Panama City beach, where the opportunity to offer a ballet-intensive dance program presented itself.  Locally, she has served as director of the Gulf Coast State College Singing Commodores and choreographer for the award-winning Gulf World magic show, as well as appearing in locally-filmed "Dancin' It's On," Directed by David Winters. Along with a staff of highly-accomplished instructors, each having achieved elite levels of training and performance, Studio by the Sea has become a respected center for premiere dance instruction in Panama City and surrounding areas.  Observers often compliment SBTS students for not only exhibiting meticulous technique, but exuding a joyful performance-quality that their passionate instructors have instilled in them.
