Announcing Moscow Ballet’s Great Russian Nutcracker Returning to Fairfield at Sondhem Center for the Performing Arts on November 7 ~ Tickets On Sale Now.

The one and only Moscow Ballet Great Russian Nutcracker will be in Fairfield on Tuesday, November 7, 7:30 pm at Sondheim Center for the Performing Arts.

All ages are invited to celebrate Christmas with the Moscow Ballet company of almost 40 ballerinas and danseurs on their 25th Anniversary Tour of North America in 2017. Moscow Ballet’s Great Russian Nutcracker is known for its award-winning Principal Dancers, lavish costumes in the style of the Victorian era, many backdrops created by “La La Land’ Set Concept designer Carl Sprague, and its Russian focus including life-sized Matryoshka Dolls, Russian folk legends Ded Moroz (Father Christmas) and Snegurochka (Snow Maiden) and Troika Sleigh. Adults and children enjoy the special effects of the flapping winged owl on the Grandfather clock, the growing 50 ft tall Christmas Tree, the Dove of Peace with a 20ft wingspan, and of course, the leaps, spins, and extraordinary moves of the company all performed to Tchaikovsky’s complete and incomparable score.

Fairfield area Ballet Students called to Audition for Moscow Ballet Student Roles Sunday, August 13 at Host Studio The Pointe School of Dance

Fairfield area ballet students ages 7 to 17 are invited to audition on Sunday, August 13, 10:30am for Moscow Ballet student roles at Host Dance Studio The Pointe School of Dance, 5331 North Park Place NE, Cedar Rapids, IA 52402.

This Moscow Ballet audition is open to students from dance studios across the city with a minimum one year of ballet training. Successful auditionees perform side-by-side with the Moscow Ballet company in the Great Russian Nutcracker in roles which were created exclusively for their age and skill levels such as Party Children, Mice, Snowflakes, Snow Maidens and more. Ballerina Alisa Bolotnikova leads auditions and will lead the young dancers at dress rehearsal with the Russian company the day of the performance. This is often a once-in-a-lifetime experience for aspiring young dancers. The Dance-with-Us program is entirely underwritten by 501c-3 Cultural Resources Foundation. The Pointe School of Dance, formerly Donna’s Dance Place, is led by Vanessa Terrell. The school offers 7 levels of ballet training and is committed to quality, technical dance education in a positive, encouraging environment.  There are classes for dancers age 3 through adult in ballet, pointe, tap, jazz, modern, lyrical, and hip hop.  Studio staff is dedicated to giving students the best possible experience in dance through knowledgeable and technically sound instruction and there is a place for every dancer!   Graduates from the studio are in professional dance companies, work as professional dance instructors, dance on college and NFL dance teams, and own industry-leading dance competitions and conventions.  Vanessa graduated from the University of Iowa in May 2010 with a B.A in Dance.  She teaches all ages and styles from 3 year olds to adults in ballet, pointe, tap, jazz, hip hop, lyrical, and conditioning.  Vanessa has taught dance across Eastern Iowa - her experience includes dance studios, non-profit after school programs, and pre-professional Youth Ballet classes. She directs Junior Troupe, Junior Elite Troupe, Advanced Troupe, and Advanced Elite Troupe and choreographs in all styles.  Her award-winning choreography has been performed at dance competitions, in high school color guards, show choirs, and theatre productions.
