The one and only Moscow Ballet Great Russian Nutcracker returns to Charlotte's Ovens Audiotrium Sunday, December 10, 1:00pm matinee and 5:00pm.

All ages are invited to celebrate Christmas with the Moscow Ballet company of almost 40 ballerinas and danseurs on their 25th Anniversary Tour of North America in 2017. Moscow Ballet’s Great Russian Nutcracker is known for its award-winning Principal Dancers, lavish costumes in the style of the Victorian era, many backdrops created by “La La Land’ Set Concept designer Carl Sprague, and its Russian focus including life-sized Matryoshka Dolls, Russian folk legends Ded Moroz (Father Christmas) and Snegurochka (Snow Maiden) and Troika Sleigh. Adults and children enjoy the special effects of the flapping winged owl on the Grandfather clock, the growing 50 ft tall Christmas Tree, the Dove of Peace with a 20ft wingspan, and of course, the leaps, spins, and extraordinary moves of the company all performed to Tchaikovsky’s complete and incomparable score.

Charlotte Area Ballet Students Called to Audition for Moscow Ballet’s Olena Pedan on Wed, Sept 13 at Host Studio Charlotte Youth Ballet

Charlotte area ballet students ages 6 to 18 are invited to audition on Wednesday, September 15, 5:00pm for Moscow Ballet Soloist and Audition Director Olena Pedan at Host Dance Studio Charlotte Youth Ballet, 627 South Amity Road, Charlotte, NC 28211.  The Moscow Ballet audition is open to students from dance studios across the city with a minimum one year of ballet training.

Ballerina Olena Pedan will lead auditions and rehearse the young dancers in their assigned roles. Successful auditionees perform side-by-side with the Moscow Ballet company in the Great Russian Nutcracker in roles that were created exclusively for their age and skill levels such as Party Children, Mice, Snowflakes, Snow Maidens and more. Olena also leads the young dancers at dress rehearsal with the Russian company the day of the performance. This is often a once-in-a-lifetime experience for aspiring young dancers. The Dance-with-Us program is in its 25th year of auditioning and rehearsing student dancers in each tour city to perform with the professional company. Auditions are free, there may be a casting fee. The Charlotte Youth Ballet provides ballet students from across the greater Charlotte area the experience of being a part of a ballet company. Structured into Corps de Ballet and Company (Apprentice, Company and Sr. Company), the Charlotte Youth Ballet provides the opportunity of progressive growth through the company just as with any other ballet company. The Charlotte Youth Ballet utilizes regional and international professionals for principals and soloists, the most talented Company dancers may be asked to perform solos. For all the Charlotte Youth Ballet dancers, it is an extraordinary, one-of-a-kind experience to be able to dance alongside professionals in full-length ballet productions.

About the Ovens Auditorium

Ovens Auditorium, located adjacent to Bojangles’ Coliseum on East Independence Boulevard, opened along with the original Coliseum in 1955.
