Get discounted tickets for Moscow Ballet’s Great Russian Nutcracker right now and guarantee the best seats for an authentic experience of Russian culture too. Performing to Tchaikovsky’s famous score, seeing this holiday favorite is like traveling to Moscow without leaving town!

As the curtain rises we see the famous onion-domed Moscow skyline and guests making their way to a Christmas Eve party where magical, life-sized dolls dance in the grand room that features a painting of the Troika. Exclusive to Russia, the Troika is a sled drawn by three horses which reaches speeds of up to 50km an hour! Masha receives a Nutcracker doll from Uncle Drosselmeyer, and later defends him in an attack by the Rat King. In the battle the Nutcracker’s cannon, inspired by statues in the glorious gardens of St. Petersburg, defeats the Rat King by shooting roses! Masha and her Nutcracker Prince then travel through the enchanting Snow Forrest accompanied by Russian Father Christmas, Ded Moroz, and the Snow Maiden, Snegurochka. Dressed in magnificent, hand-made costumes, these folk figures are the traditional Slavic figures of Christmas, winter and present giving.

The couple continues their adventure and are led by the Dove of Peace to the Land of Peace and Harmony. The land is exclusive to Moscow Ballet and was created during the time of Glasnost (openness) in Russia. The Dove, Firebird and Bluebird, Russian symbols of peace, life and happiness, are featured in the show’s backdrops. Masha and the Nutcracker enjoy the virtuosic dancing of emissaries from heritages the world over, each couple accompanied by life-sized puppets symbolizing their respective culture. The Russian variation features the Bear of Strength playing the Balalaika, a Russian three stringed instrument with a triangular body, of course! But the most Russian aspect of the Great Russian Nutcracker is the dancers themselves – all trained in the world renowned Vaganova method, many award-winning and of the highest caliber in the world!
