Moscow Ballet seeks Galleries/Frame stores to Exhibit and sell Contemporary Russian Art direct from Russia – one gallery in 70 cities across the US & Canada

BERKSHIRES, MA (August 19, 2010) – Moscow Ballet has launched an unprecedented visual art project and is seeking gallery/framing store partners to exhibit and sell the new work. In addition to touring Swan Lake and the Great Russian Nutcracker to 70 cities across the US and Canada,  Moscow Ballet is selecting visual artists who represent the contemporary sensibilities practiced in Russian visual art to create limited edition paintings in honor of the 100th anniversary of the “Father of Russian Ballet” Marius Petipa’s life and legacy. The artists are selected with the guidance of a representative from the St Petersburg Academy of Art/Repin Institute of St Petersburg, Russia. There are 10 original works of art, one from each of the rising stars of the Russian art community, from which  Moscow Ballet will produce 100 limited edition giclee prints. The prints will be given as premium gifts to MB’s most loyal performance patrons.  Moscow Ballet is selecting an exclusive gallery /framing store in each city of the 2010 tour (see list below) to partner with in this unprecedented project.  The selected partners will have the opportunity to frame, display, promote and sell Moscow Ballet’s new Russian art. The work will be unveiled to the public prior to the performance date at a special reception ahead of the performances.

In this partnership Moscow Ballet will provide  promotional materials, including flyers, posters, and stuffers; a personal appearance between Labor Day and early November by a Russian dancer for autographing, meet and greet, and mini performance demonstration; press releases and  support;  and  prints of all 10 works to be hung at the opening event.  

The selected, market-exclus ive gallery/frame store will promote the event locally via advertising, direct mail, e-mail blasts, mailing event invitations and such. The Gallery will display of MB promotional materials that promote the gallery event and  the performance, and will promote the greatest benefit which is that their patrons will have the opportunity to bid on the original works!

ABOUT THE ARTISTS, PRINTS and PERFOMANCES - Moscow Ballet, producers and presenter’s of the Great Russian Nutcracker the largest and longest annually touring Nutcracker ballet, is expanding its interests to include the visual art world. Moscow Ballet is commissioning artwork by some of Russia’s finest contemporary painters and announces the first to be contracted: Tatyana Kalin(also Kalyn) and Alexandra Nedzvetskaya. Their commissioned paintings are inspired by three of Petipa’s artistically acclaimed story ballets:  Swan Lake, Nutcracker, and Sleeping Beauty, all of which have been presented by Moscow Ballet in North America hundreds of times over 18 years.

Tatyana Kalin was born in 1969, in Kemerovo, in eastern Siberia. She attended Kemerovo's art school and subsequently graduated in 2003 from the distinguished I.E. Repin Institute for Painting, Sculpture and Architecture in St Petersburg.  She works in oil and is known for her vibrant use of color and texture. Her warm and expressive paintings often feature women, natural settings and still-lifes. She exhibits annually at shows in the St Petersburg Union of Artists Exposition Hall.  Internationally, she has exhibited in China, France, Finland, Poland, and Germany.  In 2008 she was a member of the group exposition of "Diagilev’s 100 Year Anniversary" in Paris, France. 2009 exhibitions include ''Itinerants 21st Century,” Helsingfors, Finland and a group exposition organized by Gazprom Company, St. Petersburg.  To date in 2010 she has participated in ''Itinerants 21st Century” in Berlin, Germany and  Warsaw, Poland and  was a member of the group exposition  "Art Mahege'' in Moscow. Other expositions include ''Itinerants 21 century'' Russia; Central Exposition Hall, Moscow; St. Petersburg Conservatory, St. Petersburg; the show ''Selected by Beauty'' in a private gallery in St. Petersburg.

Alexandra Nedzvetskaya, born in St Petersburg in 1981, began her professional career directly following graduation from the prestigious I.E. Repin Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture in St. Petersburg, Russia. Vadim Moiseev, General Manager at the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts Foundation, calls her work “unconditionally original” and “substantial,” while noting that her paintings demand “considerable interest of viewers and connoisseurs of visual art.” Nedzvetskaya’s  technical skills were finely honed in the Russian academic tradition at Repin and her art resonates with tones of femininity, fluidity, and a soft dreamlike sensibility often mixed with impeccable realist capabilities.  Rich in deeply expressive colors and emotions, her paintings are attracting attention from the art world and have been utilized by the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts Foundation in exhibitions nationwide.  The Foundation supplies contemporary arts organizations with work from their top pupils, providing an intimate view of what Russia has to offer to the art world at large.  In the years since commencement, Nedzvetskaya’s work has been exhibited in many galleries and exhibitions, most notably in Munich, Germany, Delft, The Netherlands, London and St. Petersburg, Russia. 

Eugene Ivanov began painting and producing graphic arts professionally in 1988, and has since created over 2500 images. Combining classical elements, such as landscape and figure drawing, with a more modernist sensibility (cubism, suprematism, and expressionism), his pieces are dreamlike yet representative of daily life. A truly prolific artist, his works have been exhibited far and wide. Galleries in Ireland, England, and Czech Republic have held shows devoted to this painter. Collectors in the Czech Republic, Germany, Israel, Poland, Russia, UK and USA hold his original pieces. He has won innumerable awards and is continually called upon to illustrate literary works. With such impressive curriculum vitae, one suspects that Mr. Ivanov received the best art training from the world's finest institutions. Surprisingly, the painter graduated from the Tyumen Industrial Institute, where he studied engineering and geophysics.

East Tour – Great Russian Nutcracker

Moscow Ballet – History - Moscow Ballet is known for its annual, touring Great Russian Nutcracker and full-length productions of the classic story-ballets; Swan Lake, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty and others. Created by award-winning Juilliard alumnus, composer/conductor and theatrical producer, Akiva Talmi, the organization evolved out of Talmi’s all-star Russian "Glasnost Festival Tour" (1986-92). Moscow Ballet made its debut in 1993 with the Great Russian Nutcracker which was directed and choreographed by soloist Stanislav Vlasov of the famous Russian Bolshoi Theatre. In 1994, Moscow Ballet invited the Moscow State Theatre of Natalia Sats, and the theatre's full orchestra, to expand the company to an 88-artist tour which was billed as the "19th Century Classical Nutcracker." In 2003, Moscow Ballet announced the appointment of Anatoly Emelianov, winner of the Diagelev award, and Vladimir Troshchenko, director of Odessa State Ballet and a pivotal figure in the ballet world, as co-artistic directors. Moscow Ballet continues to feature top graduates of Perm, Vaganova, Moscow State Academic Choreographic and Kiev schools in its productions.
