(Berkshires, Mass.) Oct 15, 2013 – Moscow Ballet presents “New Horizons–A Children's Program for Life” for over 500 Latta school students from Kindergarten through High School at the Ellis Performing Arts Center over two days.  Dance students will participate in Master Classes led by Moscow Ballet soloist Svetlana Todinova in which she teaches the Vaganova method of ballet and traditional Russian folk dancing. Lower level students will work with Svetlana on Russian language, interactive improvisations, and healthy guidelines to movement and nutrition for an active lifestyle. Across the nation the need to address children’s physical, nutritional and creative health  is great and immediate. Recent studies report that children nationwide spend close to 25% of their waking hours in front of an electronic screen and 49% are overweight. “New Horizons” combats these hindrances to children’s healthy development and makes a positive and long lasting impact on children and their communities. Students will also see clips of the company of 40 Moscow Ballet dancers performing the Great Russian Nutcracker.

New Horizons – A Children’s Program for Life,” is a 3-pronged cultural immersion program for children of all ages and interests that delivers a plan for physical, nutritional and creative/emotional health for their use over a lifetime. This once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for school children provides a full day of cultural immersion, personal role modeling with the highly trained Russian dancers as well as a world class performance experience. Testimony from Florida’s Pasco County School District supervisor Mary Grey affirms the experience, "1800 children were totally engaged. At the end of the day, all the children leaped enthusiastically to their feet clapping and cheering!”  The interactive program serves up to a theater of 2000 for a full day with Moscow Ballet’s teachers and acclaimed company. Over 8,000 children nationwide have participated in the program.
