Christmas, children and choirs = Triple Holiday Cheer

Musical Wunderkind - Minneapolis Youth Chorus

“Dance with Us” and work 1-on-1 with Moscow Ballet soloists

Moscow Ballet curtain call with "Dance-with-Us" students

Dance with Us offers young dancers personal exposure to the highly skilled Russian dancers and experience with a professional performance, an especially unique opportunity for students in smaller markets. Dance with Us Audition Directors travel to 50+ North American cities in September and October auditioning and rehearsing children ages 7 to 16 years. Cathy Napolitano-Mucci, Dance Center North owner in Syracuse NY, has participated in Dance with Us since the first Great Russian Nutcracker tour in 1993. She remarks, “I know from watching my students grow and advance since the very first Moscow Ballet tour, that this is one of the most significant experiences a young dancer can have. It lifts them up and humbles them all at the same time.” Dance with Us is underwritten solely by Moscow Ballet. Partnerships with local dance studios in performance cities are carefully developed by Producer and Choreographer Mary Gianonne Talmi who also developed the children’s choreography in the Dance with Us program with Moscow Ballet’s Ballet Masters. Creative Development Residency

15 local dance students create new steps with hands-on help from the Russian Ballet Master!

Soloist Svetlana Todinova working with studentsMoscow Ballet’s Ballet Master Anna Nekhludova, and Choreographer-Producer Mary Giannone Talmi worked 1-on-1 with 15 local ballet students, ages 7 to 16, creating new choreography for 2013 tour of Great Russian Nutcracker this August .  The 21 year old “Dance with Us” program has always included student dancers in the professional performances, as was done in the original productions in Russia. Young ballerinas-to-be audition, rehearse and then dance side-by-side with 35-some professionals in a once in a lifetime experience. The student dancers perform roles such as Party Children, Mice and Little Snowflakes in Act I and Snow Maidens and more in Act II. The roles are ancillary to the production and were developed explicitly to fit different age and experience levels.  Each year over 5000 young dancers participate and perform, that’s about 100,000 great experiences over the past 20 years of touring!

The residency was held in western Massachusetts over 5 intense days of work. Moscow Ballet Master Anna Nekhludova, a graduate of Moscow State Academy of Choreography commonly known as the Bolshoi Ballet Academy, began her career at the Kremlin Palace of Congresses and brings the best ballet training in the world with her to this CDR. Producer and Choreographer Mary Giannone Talmi, a graduate of the Julliard School,  has choreographed for American Ballet Theatre II under Baryshnikov, Boston Ballet II, Dayton Ballet and Dayton Contemporary Dance Company, among others. Together with young ballet students in Albany/Western Massachusetts, the group will create new steps for “Dance with Us” children to perform on the 2013 tour. Find out more about auditioning here.
