“Expansive… transcendent music… the Russian style is elegantly generous, and so the experience is never meager”. Alastair Macaulay, Chief Dance Critic, NY Times
Hammerstein Ballroom, a magnificent, century-old former opera house with fully integrated 21st century media and entertainment production technology, was constructed in 1906 by Oscar Hammerstein as the Manhattan Opera House, an alternative to the popular Metropolitan Opera.
The elaborately decorated theater had a variety of incarnations including: Vaudeville performances; Freemason's temple; a trade union and the site where Patti LaBelle recorded her hit DVD “Live! One Night Only” for which she won a Grammy Award. In 1997 the theater underwent extensive renovation, with the hand painted ceiling being completely restored.
