Moscow Ballet and Dance Connection announce second annual open auditions for 7 to 16 year old dancers to perform side-by-side with 40 Russian pros in the Great Russian Nutcracker. Auditions are on Tuesday, September 6, 4:30pm at the Farmington Civic Center, 3041 E Main Street, Farmington, NM 87402.

Moscow Ballet soloist Mariia Skoruk is in town specifically to conduct the auditions and to train the young dancers for several days. Toledo studio owner Jenny Karl says, "This [opportunity] would be comparable to working one-on-one with an Olympic athlete…you are working with the best of the best." The live performance experience is a once-in-lifetime chance for most aspiring dancers. Dancer/teacher Michelle Dawson of Pittsburgh shares, “"Not only are you providing a fantastic opportunity for kids to perform alongside professionals…but to tackle what it means to be a performer, how you handle all of that." Students from all area dance studios are invited.

Those accepted will perform in the Great Russian Nutcracker at the Farmington Civic Center Sunday, December 11, 3:00 and 7:00pm. Applicants must have dance training, dress in dance attire and may bring Pointe shoes.

Alexandra Elagina made her North American debut as Masha in Moscow Ballet's Great Russian Nutcracker in 2010 to critical acclaim: “Alexandra Elagina exuded the essence of delicacy.” Charleston Today and “Elagina finds world enough and time to raise one leg slowly behind her until it’s the height of her shoulder.

"This slow ascent of one leg, while the music swells, seems brimful with feeling.” Chief Dance Critic, New York Times. She hails from Kazan, the sixth largest city in Russia and called the "third capital of Russia." Elagina graduated from the Kazan Ballet Academy in 2006. Immediately after graduation she was accepted as a soloist to Tatar's Jalil State Academic Theater of Opera and Ballet which is considered to be home to one of the best troupes performing in Russia. Elagina has toured France, Germany, Switzerland, and Holland. Moscow Ballet is proud to premiere this talented, newcomer to the international ballet scene.
