President’s Challenge

Moscow Ballet is advocate for the President’s Challenge Program (PALA+) to encourage families to maintain a healthy lifestyle!  alt

Moscow Ballet is a leader in presenting educational programming, high quality classes for dancers and non-dancers, and using the expertise of the best Russian ballerinas of modern times as teachers. Moscow Ballet has sponsored and executed literacy and academic campaigns since 1993. Moscow Ballet salutes the President’s Challenge Program in its efforts to develop the healthiest citizens now and in the future!

In support of First Lady Michelle Obama’s “Let’s Move!” initiative to end childhood obesity within a generation, the President’s Council on Fitness, Sports & Nutrition is challenging Americans of all ages, abilities and backgrounds to achieve PALA+ which is designed to to make physical activity and healthy eating part of Americans  everyday life. 

PALA+ healthy eating goals include:
  • I made half my plate fruits and vegetables
  • At least half of the grains that I ate were whole grains
  • I chose fat-free or low-fat (1%) milk, yogurt, or cheese
  • I drank water instead of sugary drinks
  • I chose lean sources of protein
  • I compared sodium (salt) in foods like soup and frozen meals and chose foods with less sodium
  • I ate seafood this week
  • I ate smaller portions

PALA+ physical activity requirements are: 60 minutes/day for kids, 30 minutes/day for adults, five days a week for six out of eight weeks.

The nutrition component requires participants to add a weekly healthy eating goal and build upon those goals throughout the same six-week period.

 Individuals who achieve the physical activity and healthy eating goals will receive a certificate signed by the Council co-chairs.

Participation in PALA+ is one way to meet the recommendations of the 2008 Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans.  The healthy eating goals are based on the consumer messages from the Dietary Guidelines for Americans, 2010. The President’s Challenge is the premier program of the President’s Council on Fitness, Sports, and Nutrition and directly supports the First Lady’s Let’s Move! initiative.
