The Modell Performing Arts Center at the Lyric Opera House is set to host Moscow Ballet’s Great Russian Nutcracker in December. The theater first opened its doors in 1894 as The Music Hall, hosting the Boston Symphony Orchestra and Australian opera singer Nellie Meba. It has also hosted the Metropolitan Opera, Ella Fitzgerald, and Oscar Hammerstein. Today, the Lyric continues moving toward the future, with ongoing renovations that will better accommodate first-class performing arts and community-based events. Upcoming performances to grace the Lyric stage include Tony Bennett and Jill Scott.

Moscow Ballet Brings Great Russian Nutcracker to Baltimore
Moscow Ballet’s Great Russian Nutcracker 2011 holiday performance premieres 2009 International Ballet Competition (IBC) award-winning dancer Karyna Shatkovskaya as Masha (aka Clara) and Vladimir Tkachenko, honor graduate of the Perm School, as the Nutcracker Prince, along with a corps of 40 Russian dancers. Set to Tchaikovsky’s famous score, the production features 200 lavish costumes, larger-than-life Russian puppets and 9 hand-painted backdrops that are embellished with 3-D effects…a must-see for the whole family! Now in its 19th year, Moscow Ballet’s Great Russian Nutcracker tour of two companies annually visits 60+ cities across North America.
Moscow Ballet’s beloved Christmas story received critical acclaim in 2010… “Expansive…the Russian style is elegantly generous, and so the experience is never meager” NY Times; ”The corps dancers were striking to see” Charleston Today; “When performed by masters like these [Moscow Ballet], ballet seems effortless, elegant, and easy” Twin Cities Daily Planet.
