Great Russian Nutcracker Wows Critics and Kids

Moscow Ballet’s Great Russian Nutcracker is bringing holiday cheer to and receiving warm welcomes from each city on the 2010 tour! And with half of the tour performances over (already?), we are receiving lots of positive feedback.

Great Russian Nutcracker

Suzi in Grand Forks, ND had this to say: “I attended the show with my 4-year old granddaughter, whose jaw remained open in awe throughout the show. At intermission…she saw one of the dancers in the hall and totally flipped out telling me there was a real Ballerina and she wasn’t on the stage and she was so beautiful…Poor little girl fell asleep 15 minutes before the show ended, fighting her eyelids all the way! Thanks for the wonderful memories!”

Dance critic from the Twin Cities Daily Planet in Minneapolis reports, “Ballerinas took center stage and spun until you got dizzy… Danseurs kicked high and leapt in circles around the stage until there was clapping and cheering coming from the crowd.”

Check out this news clip on Minneapolis’ ABC affiliate KAAL-TV to see what kids on stage have to say about their experiences as they rehearse with the pros at the beautiful Mayo Civic Center. Is it more fun to be in the show or to watch the delight of the young dance stars in the cast? It’s hard to say.

We are also pleased to share what NY Times Chief Dance Critic Alastair Macaulay said of the West Point, NY performance. He raves, “[The performance is] expansive… transcendent… the Russian style is elegantly generous, and so the experience is never meager.”

This week we will be in Bethesda for the first time ever on Dec. 8 and 9, featuring students of the CityDance Education at Strathmore. We will be in Baltimore on Dec. 11 and 12 with a live orchestra and student dancers from the Moving Company Dance Center and in Denver Dec. 10 and 11, with students from Cherry Creek Dance Studio… to name a few cities!

Be sure to reserve your family’s seats for this holiday tradition that is truly spectacular!
