Great Russian Nutcracker Continues 2010 Tour Through December Last Performance of Swan Lake is Nov. 30 in Thunder Bay, Ontario

The holiday season has officially begun!

Amid gift shopping and decorating for the season, find time to experience the timeless holiday classic, The Nutcracker, as only the Russian dance it! Moscow Ballet’s Great Russian Nutcrackeris a holiday treat for all ages. Now in its 18th season, the tour visits over 70 cities across the United States and Canada each year. It showcases exquisite, acclaimed, award-winning Russian ballet dancers as well as breathtaking backdrops, luxurious costumes and hand-crafted props.

The east and west coast legs of the Great Russian Nutcracker tour each feature 40 highly skilled, professional Russian ballet dancers, as well as supporting youth dancers—ages 7 to 16—in each city. This is a very exciting and rare opportunity to experience not only this world-renowned ballet, but to watch local area youth shine alongside the professionals.

For 2010, much of the east coast leg of the tour features acclaimed principal dancers Alexandra Elagina and Anatolie Ustimov.

Some cities along the east coast tour—Baltimore MD, Charlottesville VA, Virginia Beach VA, Rosemont (Chicago) IL, Durham NC, Sarasota FL, St. Petersburg FL—will feature 2010 IBC Gold Medalist dancers Sae-Eun Park and Myung-Kyu Kim in the lead roles of Masha (Clara) and the Nutcracker Prince, respectively.

On the west coast tour, 2008 IBC Gold Medalists ballet dancers Cristina and Alexei Terentiev dance the principal roles.

Swan Lake is another classic that Moscow Ballet is touring this year. One of the most revered ballets in the world, it premiered over a century ago in Russia. This classic story ballet of love lost and renewed expresses a range of human emotions accented by Tchaikovsky’s luminous score.

Moscow Ballet’s Swan Lake, one of the most difficult classic story ballets to perform, features the acclaimed, award-winning Terentievs. The couple also danced the principal roles of Masha (Clara) and the Nutcracker Prince in 2009 on the Great Russian Nutcracker’s east coast tour. And similar to the Great Russian Nutcracker tour, local area youth dancers are cast in Swan Lake alongside the pros.

Moscow Ballet’s Swan Lake has been touring along the northwestern United States and Canada through November. This 2010 tour offers its final performance in Thunder Bay, Ontario (Canada) on Tuesday, Nov. 30 at the Community Auditorium at 7:30 p.m.
